“Reclaiming Our Voice: New Jersey’s Central Role in the Fight for Women’s Suffrage”

Ratified Aug. 16, 1920, the 19th Amendment granted women the right to vote. However, the fight for enfranchisement began in the mid 19th century and involved several generations of women protesting, lobbying, marching and practicing civil disobedience. Speaker Carol Simon Levin portrays Lillian Feickert, president of the New Jersey Woman Suffrage Association from 1912-1920, to tell the story of the role of New Jersey women in the long struggle for woman suffrage.
